Google har i det siste hatt store problemer med s&amp;aring;kalt s&amp;oslash;ppelinnhold - innhold som har ingen eller lite relevans for brukeren. I f&amp;oslash;lge en artikkel i New York Times - &lt;a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2011/02/26/technology/internet/26google.html?_r=1&amp;amp;emc=eta1" target="_blank"&gt;Seeking to Weed Out Drivel, Google Adjusts Search Engine &lt;/a&gt;- har det&amp;nbsp;v&amp;aelig;rt en mengde klager til Google&amp;nbsp;den siste tiden&amp;nbsp;over d&amp;aring;rlig kvalitet p&amp;aring; s&amp;oslash;keresultater pga. manipulering av s&amp;oslash;keresultater ved bruk av "link spamming". Google er helt avhengig av at s&amp;oslash;keresutatene gir s&amp;aring; relevante svar som mulig, ellers vil brukerne raskt g&amp;aring; over til andre s&amp;oslash;kemotorer. Det er derfor ekstremt viktig for Google &amp;aring; endre s&amp;oslash;kemotor-algoritmene slik at "web farming" ikke lenger gir bedring i Google's resultatliste.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Google har fremdeles 66% markedsandel i USA og mer i andre land i henhold til web-analysefirmaet comScore, men det er t&amp;oslash;ff konkurranse i markedet - blandt annet fra Microsoft's Bing. Et annet analysefirma, HitWise, m&amp;aring;ler hvor tilfredse brukere er med s&amp;oslash;kene sine ved &amp;aring; sjekke om brukerne blir p&amp;aring; den f&amp;oslash;rste lenken de klikker p&amp;aring; fra resultatlisten. Dette firmaet har funnet at Bing har 82% tilfredse brukere, mens Google har 66%.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;

            I en kort periode, som inkluderte helligdagene rundt Jul, dukket plutselig J C Penny opp som nummer en i s&amp;oslash;k for alt fra "kjoler" til "h&amp;aring;ndbagasje". New York Times unders&amp;oslash;kte saken og fant ut at det var lenker til J C Penny fra tusenvis av "merkelige" nettsider - mange av dem uten noen som helst tilknytning til J C Penny eller s&amp;oslash;keordet / n&amp;oslash;kkelordet. NYT rapporterte dette til Google og, i l&amp;oslash;pet av f&amp;aring; timer, var plutselig J C Penny g&amp;aring;tt fra &amp;aring; v&amp;aelig;re nummer 1 til &amp;aring; ha en vises f&amp;oslash;rst p&amp;aring; sider langt ute i Google listen. J C Penny p&amp;aring;st&amp;aring;r at de ikke hadde noen kunnskaper omkring s&amp;oslash;kemotoroptimalisering, og at de kun hadde leid inn et firma til &amp;aring; gj&amp;oslash;re jobben. Reaksjonen fra J C Penny lot ikke vente p&amp;aring; seg og SEO firmaet som de hadde leid inn - SearchDex - fikk sparken p&amp;aring; dagen.&lt;br /&gt;

            Denne historien viser hvor fristende det er for firmaer &amp;aring; fors&amp;oslash;ke &amp;aring; kj&amp;oslash;pe en topplassering i Google, samtidig som det ogs&amp;aring; viser at det kan f&amp;aring; alvorlige konsekvenser med rask og effektiv h&amp;aring;ndtering fra Google sin side. Teknikker som ble benyttet av SearchDex kalles i bransjen for "black hat" SEO metoder, og Google advarer p&amp;aring; det sterkeste mot dette.&lt;br /&gt;

Men hvor mye er for mye? Sp&amp;oslash;r deg selv hvor mange ganger du har meldt deg av nyhetsbrev i det siste kun fordi det er irriterende (engelsk - annoying) &amp;aring; f&amp;aring; s&amp;aring; mange eposter fra firma&amp;nbsp;#$&amp;amp;%$&amp;amp;/!!. &lt;br /&gt;

Jay Goltz, som eier fem selskaper i Chicago, skrev nylig om noen bekymringer han har over epost markedsf&amp;oslash;ring... &lt;br /&gt;

Han mener at antall markedsf&amp;oslash;ringseposter i dag er et problem. Han refererer til det han kaller "E-nnoyance elasticity" (fra det engelske ordet "annoyance" som betyr irritasjon) som for han betyr hvor stor &amp;oslash;kning av mennesker som vil avslutte abonnementet til epost-markedsf&amp;oslash;ringen etter hvert som du &amp;oslash;ker antall utsendte eposter (hvis du kan sende ut en masse eposter uten at folk avslutter abonnementet, s&amp;aring; er epost-markedsf&amp;oslash;ringen din "e-nnoyance inelastic").&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Jay Goltz mener at det er viktig &amp;aring; ha en &amp;aring;penhet med kundene om hva de kan forvente av markedsf&amp;oslash;ring n&amp;aring;r de faktisk gir deg epost-adressen sin. Men hvor mye er for mye? Er en gang i m&amp;aring;neden for mye? Eller er ikke det nok for &amp;aring; holde dine kunder informert, ei heller optimalt ift. salg for ditt firma?&lt;br /&gt;

Jay Golts sier videre: "Uten tvil, mange andre firmaer har testet ut forskjellige intervaller og funnet noe som passer for dem - dog s&amp;aring; m&amp;aring; jeg si at, basert p&amp;aring; personlig erfaring, det fortsatt er mange selskaper som g&amp;aring;r langt over streken n&amp;aring;r det gjelder e-nnoyance..."&lt;br /&gt;

Dog har vi grunn til &amp;aring; anta at det dreier seg om over 30% &amp;oslash;kning.&lt;br /&gt;

You also use the Telerik RadControls for additional functionality on your web pages, and you want to use the excellent, built-in Ajax functionality in the RadControls.&lt;br /&gt;

I recently implemented a tab strip with a context sensitive menu, i.e., right click on any tab strip to get a context menu. A click on any on the context menu's items will make an Ajax call to the user controls code behind .cs file. The problem I ran into was that the tab strip is implemented in a user control - and thus the context menu must also be in the same user control. The user control must then have a RadAjaxManager definition on the page. However, I also have other Ajax stuff going on in my system, and therefore ran into a problem when it comes to handling OnAjaxRequests and the use of RadAjaxManagerProxy (because the proxy does not expose the OnAjaxRequest function). The way the guys at Microsoft implemented this is actually really nice. So to make my CMS - PrimePublish - more SEO friendly, I decided to convert it to asp.net 4.0, and specifically implement the new SEO features that this version has to offer.&lt;br /&gt;

In this blogpost, I will describe some of the issues that I was faced with when converting. These are typically related to&amp;nbsp;Javascript, CSS (Stylesheet), AJAX calls, and so on. It actually took me a long time to figure out all the small things that all of the sudden did not work after I implemented routing. Well, it's pretty easy - read on for an explanation and code example...&lt;br /&gt;

First of all, always use the "301 Moved Permanently" feature to redirect a page from the old location to the new. Otherwise, you may experience a&amp;nbsp;huge downward leap in search engine rankings,&amp;nbsp;302 hijacking penalties, or other penalties from the search engine. Do not use JavaScript or client-side redirects as these often will be misinterpreted by search engines and cause penalties.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The most common use for the 301 redirect, which all site owners need these days, is the redirect from the "non-www" version of the site's &lt;acronym title="Uniform Resource Locator"&gt;URL&lt;/acronym&gt; to the "www" one (for example, http://mydomain.com/ to http://www.mydomain.com/). This helps prevent the 302 hijacking.&lt;br /&gt;

I recently ran into one like this. After having implemented a few changes in my program, the program would crash with an error message like:&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;strong&gt;Type 'SomeNamespace.Web.Data.ProviderDataSourceDeepLoadList' in Assembly&lt;br /&gt;
'SomeNamespace.Web, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null'&lt;br /&gt;
is not marked as serializable&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
I eventually tried to Google (actually I typically use Bing) the error message without much luck. There were very little information on the net about this particular error message, and I therefore had to figure this one out on my own.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
I eventually found the solution to the problem. The thing was that I had replaced a session variable with a variable stored in ViewState. Switching the variable to a Session variable solved the problem and the error disappeared.&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;strong&gt;NB!&lt;/strong&gt; If you are using Telerik's RadControls, then be aware that RadAjax does not interpret the IE conditional comments correctly, i.e., &amp;lt;!--[if lt IE 8]&amp;gt;...&amp;lt;![endif]--&amp;gt;. One simple fix to this problem is to set the EnablePageHeadUpdate property of the &lt;strong&gt;ajax&lt;/strong&gt; control to false. Traditional CSS is pretty much&amp;nbsp;designed to display a&amp;nbsp;vertical stack of blocks, piled one on top of another - each containing either another stack of blocks, or text wrapped to fit inside the block. This system has its obvious limitations, and is the reason to why a lot of web designers still use the old HTML table tag when designing web pages.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Tables have actually been part of the CSS spesification since CSS 2.1, but the problem has been that the browsers - specifically Internet Explorer - did not support this specification until the release of IE8.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
After the release of IE6, and its established dominance in the market, Microsoft decided (silently) to scale down - or even stop - its browser development and moved its programmers on to other projects. While other browser companies continued to improve their browsers, Microsoft's browser&amp;nbsp;simply hibernated. However, based on Firefox's growing popularity, Microsoft eventually decided to get back into the race and develop new versions of IE. On October 18 2007, IE7 (six years after IE6!)&amp;nbsp;was introduced, however without support for some crucial CSS2.1 support like table layout.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
With the introduction of IE8, Microsoft is definitely back in the browser market. IE8 has full support for the CSS2.1 specification. And now the race is on for implementing CSS3.0...&lt;br /&gt;

On a recent project I ran into a problem though. I Ajax-enabled a GridView and a FormView, but the problem arised when trying to download files from those controls. Uploading or downloading files does not work in AJAX. This is a limitation of the &lt;strong&gt;XmlHttpRequest&lt;/strong&gt; component, used in all AJAX frameworks for asynchronous calls to the application.
